Google applies SynthID Text to Gemini text and offers an early-access detector. Its open-source tools are for teams watermarking their own models.

Public verification

Google's early-access SynthID Detector accepts text, but Google does not document a public text verification API. Gemini's public verification flow currently covers image, video, and audio uploads.

Limitations
What to keep in mind when reading a result or claim.
  • Detection works best on longer, varied responses and is weaker on short or highly factual text.
  • Thorough rewriting or translation can substantially reduce detection confidence.
  • Self-operated detection requires the private watermark configuration, tokenizer, and a matching detector. Google's reference code does not include the production Gemini detector.
